Hob-beats Percussion Group

Hob-beats Percussion Group is a percussion ensemble, the core of which is the percussion duo Pękala Kordylasińska Pękala (formerly Hob-beats Percussion Duo), which has been operating for almost twenty years. The ensemble is co-created by Magdalena Kordylasińska and Miłosz Pękala. As a percussion duo they have numerous successes in their achievements, ranging from international competitions, through their artistic projects (including Enso by Jarosław Kapuściński – Warsaw Autumn, Hob-beats/Percussion Clavier de Lyon – France, How Does Space Dance? – Copernicus Science Center/Warsaw, Falling Still – Felix Kubin, Elbphilharmonie/Hamburg) and recitals and masterclasses (including China, Russia, Brazil, France, Germany).
In 2013, Magdalena and Miłosz formed a percussion group to implement artistic ideas that the duo could not afford, using the extended executive apparatus. Each time, they invite outstanding percussionists, whose specialization corresponds to the original projects presented by the ensemble.
Hob-beats Percussion Group has, among others, the original projects
W Strugach Dźwięków commissioned by Warsaw Autumn and enthusiastically received during the La Folle Journ ée in 2014. Cage/Reich – Barwa/Rytm. The group also participated in the performances of Krzysztof Penderecki’s Psalms of David, Luigi Dallapiccola Canti di Prigionia and in the PWM project 100 per 100. Musical decades of freedom, performing Incantationi I by Zbigniew Penherski.

PhD Miłosz Pękala graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, percussion class of Professor Stanisław Skoczyński (diploma with honours). He also studied at The Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen under Gert Mortensen.
For several years he has taken part in many prestigious concerts, festivals and various artistic projects concerning contemporary music, popular music and ethno. He is cooperating mainly with the percussion duo Pękala Kordylasińska Pękala and develops a solo repertoire. Until 2020 he was a member the award-winning Kwadrofonik quartet. He specializes
in playing the vibraphone, multipercussion and Latin American instruments.

Miłosz Pękala is a laureate of many competitions, both as soloist and a member
of chamber ensembles. He also has achievements in the composing. His compositions are included in phonograms, incl. Kwadrofonik quartet, Pękala Kordylasińska Pękala percussion duo. Together with Bartłomiej Wąsik commissioned by the Malta festival (Poznań, Poland),
he staged the ballet Xenophonia. Symphony for the Other (2016), directed by Jan Komasa.
In 2019, commisioned by the Polish Radio Theater, he wrote music for the radio play
The Beetle by Sławomir Mrożek, directed by Jerzy Schejbal. In 2019, the composition Radio for Vibraphone, intended for vibraphone and tape, won 2nd proze at the 1st International Peles Competition for Composers in Portugal. In the same year, the piece Noise Study was included in the Birthday Party phonogram devoted to Włodzimierz Kotoński.
Currently, Miłosz Pękala works as an assistant professor at the Chopin University
of Music in Warsaw, he is artistic director of the Hob-beats Percussion Group, co-creates groups: Mitch&Mitch, Pękala Kordylasińska Pękala, MIR, Chain Ensemble, and also takes part in many national and international artistic projects.
