Sławomir Czarnecki

Was born in 1949 in Jelenia Góra. In 1963-1969, he attended the State Music School in Częstochowa as a piano class student. It was also there that he made contact with Romuald Twardowski, with whom he started exploring the art of composing. In 1969-1974, he studied composition at the Warsaw Higher State School of Music (currently the Chopin University of Music) in the class of Prof. Piotr Perkowski and Romuald Twardowski. In 1980-1981, as a scholarship holder of the French government, he continued his studies with Prof. Olivier Messiaen in Paris.
He has won awards at 17 composition competitions. He is currently a full professor at the Casimir the Great University in Bydgoszcz. For 45 years, he has also been associated with the Józef Elsner Secondary Music School in Warsaw, where he teaches unique classes in “propaedeutics of composition.”
As a result of his pedagogical activity and artistic output, he has been awarded with the Medal of the National Education Commission, the Silver Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis, the Presidential Gold Medal for Long Service, and in 2019 – with the Gold Cross of Merit.
His works are collected in 63 opuses, including solo, chamber, symphonic, choral, and cantata pieces.
The current period of his artistic creation is characterised by taking an attempt at postmodern synthesis, where both the achievements of modernism and tradition are an important factor shaping the aesthetics. The composer defines his attitude with the word “ANALOGISM.”
