He is a student of the Doctoral School of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music, majoring in Composition. He has polished his skills at the Department of Composition and Music Theory and at the Department of Sound Engineering at his home university, as well as at numerous workshops, courses and conferences (including the ones taking place at the University of York, Berklee College of Music, Harvard University). He is
a laureate of numerous national and international competitions in many fields of music, including composition, sound engineering, piano, solfege and harmony. As the first person in the history of Polish artistic education, he was awarded the Diamond Grant (2019), where he conducts research on the psychoacoustic properties of microtonal systems. The planned result of the project is the staging of his debut opera in 2023.
In the field of composition, Krzysztof Kicior has composed over forty pieces for various instrumentations – from the solo instruments to symphony orchestra – and of various duration – from three to ninety minutes. His works have been performed many times in Poland and abroad, incl. in Austria, Slovenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Thailand, Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam. Some of them were commissioned by national and foreign institutions, including Partch Quartet (Honolulu, USA) and Kinemo Festival (Minsk, Belarus). Composition Collapse. Concerto for percussion and ensemble, commissioned by the Chopin University Modern Ensemble, closes the band’s debut album released by Chopin University Press (UMFC CD 134), nominated for the Fryderyki 2021 award.
Although the composition is the leading area of Krzysztof Kicior’s activity, the young scientist is also active in other fields of broadly understood art. As a pianist performing abroad, he performed local premieres of works by Polish composers from the Romantic era (Ignacy Feliks Dobrzyński, Władysław Żeleński), European composers of the 20th century (Jazeps Vitols, Einojuhani Rautavaara), as well as world premieres of works by contemporary composers (Nayoung An, Jacek Sienkiewicz). In the field of sound engineering, he has been associated with the Audio Engineering Society for many years, where – as the only person living in Central Europe – he is involved in the work of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee, which he chaired during the 146th International AES Convention in Dublin (2019). Due to his active artistic and scientific activity in three specialties: composition, pianistics and sound engineering, the area of Krzysztof Kicior’s research work is focused both on the problematics of composing music in the context of its performance and perception, as well as new performative-receptive aspects in relation to the newly created works.

Krzysztof Kicior fot.
