Zbigniew Baginski

bom in 1949 in Szczecin, he started his musical education in the city's music schools. He
graduated in composition from the state Higher School of Music (now the Fryderyk Chopin
University of Music) in Warsaw, where he has lived since 1963.

He made his debut in 1968 with the Triptych for clarinet and piano. Since his intemational debut with Miscelląnea for piano at the Nordiske Musikdage in Copenhagen in 1974, his works have been performed at many prestigious festivals, including World Music Days, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, lnventionen and Musik Bięnnale in Berlin, Polish Realities in Glasgow, New Music Week in Bucarest, the Leningrad Musical Spring, the Ukrainian International Music Festival in Kiev, thę Warsaw Autumn, Warsaw Music Encounters and Musica Polonica Nova in Wrocław.

As a teacher of composition, Bagiński has been associated with the University of Music since
1974. He has been in charge of a composition class since 1989. In 2004-2012 he served as Head of the Composition Faculty. In 1973-74 he was on the faculty of the Institute of Musicology of the Catholic University in Lublin. He also teaches the history of music at the Theatre Academy in Warsaw.

ln 1989-99 he served as Secretary General of the Polish Composers' Union, and in 2001-11 chaired the Board of the Union's Warsaw Branch.

He composed the trumpet call of the Royal Castle in Warsaw, which has been the city's official bugle call since 2008 and is performed from the Castle Tower every day at I 1- l 5 am.
